Last night, the Association of Past Ontario Champs hosted its annual APOC Pep Rally, bringing together singers, supporters, and barbershop fans for an evening of music, fellowship, and encouragement ahead of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Convention in St. Louis.
With 250 people in attendance, the evening was a strong reminder of the spirit and generosity that define the Ontario District. Hosted by emcee Katy Dane, the program featured performances from six choruses and twelve quartets, each contributing to a lively night of harmony and celebration.
While the APOC Chorus did not perform this year, APOC’s presence was felt throughout the evening as the host organization behind this long-standing Ontario tradition. The Pep Rally continues to serve as both a showcase of local talent and a meaningful show of support for those representing the District on the international stage.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2025 Jeff Pritchard Outstanding Quartetter Award to John Wilkie. This award recognizes long-standing Ontario District quartetters who reflect the qualities associated with Jeff Pritchard: humility, gentlemanly conduct, a deep love of barbershop, years of dedicated quartet singing, and commitment to the ideals of the Barbershop Harmony Society. John’s recognition was warmly received by those in attendance.
The night came to a memorable close as Ontario District legend George Shields, still active at 100-years-old, directed the audience in our closing songs, “We Sing That They Shall Speak” and “Keep the Whole World Singing.” It was a fitting finale to an evening rooted in tradition, community, and shared song.
This year, the Ontario District will be represented at International by The ’Loo Wops, who will compete in the Varsity Quartet Competition in St. Louis. Thanks to the continued support of APOC, the Ontario District, and everyone who attended, our representatives head to the international stage with the encouragement of a proud and enthusiastic District behind them.
