The Ontario District of the Barbershop Harmony Society hosted its annual fall convention in Brantford, Ontario, over the past weekend, bringing together a talented array of vocal performers and enthusiasts for a memorable event.
The convention featured a competitive quartet contest, with fifteen quartets competing and delivering stellar performances that delighted the audience and showcased their dedication to the art of barbershop harmony.
Empire emerged as the champions of the Ontario District quartet contest with an impressive score of 78.7. Constructive Criticism secured the second place, and The After Party claimed the third spot.
The chorus contest saw strong participation, with the Toronto Northern Lights clinching victory. Their outstanding performance earned them the opportunity to represent the District at the International competition in Cleveland, Ohio, next July. The Hamilton Harbourtown Sound also secured their place at the same event based on their commendable score.
Hindsight quartet secured the honor of representing the Ontario District at the International Seniors Quartet Contest during the Midwinter convention in New York City next February.
In addition to the quartet and chorus contests, several awards were presented to recognize excellence in various categories. The London Men of Accord received the Chorus Encouragement Award, the Most-Improved Chorus Award, and the Plateau Two trophy. Toronto won the Plateau Four trophy, and Northern Pursuit was honored with the District Novice Quartet award.
The Mixed Barbershop Harmony Association (MBHA) Ontario Mixed Chorus winners were Undercover Mix, who impressed with their unique blend of voices and musical styles.
The convention was characterized by a sense of unity and camaraderie, with District President Dan Locke hosting a hospitality room on Friday night, and the Gentlemen of Harmony from Simcoe serving as overall host chapter including hosting a hospitality room on Saturday night, creating opportunities for attendees to connect, perform, and enjoy the weekend.
