Come celebrate with a cappella singers on Saturday August 19th, 2023 as we once again raise our voices in 4-part harmony.
This will be the 50th time barbershop singers, their families, and friends gather to share the joy and camaraderie of close harmony singing and delicious summer-time traditional barbeque fare. The event raises funds for the Niagara Children’s Centre and A Cappella Niagara, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
To honour and mark the 50th anniversary of the Niagara Barbershoppers Corn Roast we are unveiling a special edition of our new logo (see above)!
It all started 50 years ago with the St. Catharines Singing Saints men’s chorus, hosted by the Schwenker family on their farm and barn on Louth Street! It proved to be so successful that it was moved to the Wilson family farm near Welland in 1988 where they had a brand new and larger barn, along with lots of space for off-road parking. We are indebted to the Schwenker and Wilson families for providing a venue with a great hoedown-style atmosphere. Although Ted Schwenker and John Wilson, both members of the Singing Saints Chorus are no longer alive, their generosity will never be forgotten. To help keep the Corn Roast tradition alive, A Cappella Niagara accepted the opportunity to keep those chords ringing by hosting the Corn Roast since 2015.
The 50th Niagara Barbershoppers Corn Roast will be held in picturesque Port Dalhousie at the air-conditioned Port Dalhousie Lions Hall at 201 Main Street, St. Catharines on Saturday August 19th. Enjoy hamburgers, hotdogs, and all the corn you can eat from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m.
The free show follows from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Admission to the barbecue is $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. There will be a cash bar. To avoid the line up at the door you may pay in advance online via Eventbrite.com. Come rain or shine.
