Calling All Seniors – The Ontario Seniors Chorus

Calling All Seniors! At the mid-winter convention in San Antonio in January, 2017 the Society will introduce a new event, a Seniors Chorus Festival/Competition. For this inaugural event, 5 senior choruses will be invited by the Society to participate. The invitations will be determined by scores from a 2-song performance at the fall convention in each district. The House of Delegates approved the formation of The Ontario District Seniors Chorus at the April 2016 meeting.

The Ontario District is offering an opportunity to all senior Barbershoppers (those 55 and older) to be part of an Ontario District Seniors Chorus. The chorus will be directed by Dr. Ray Danley and an assistant TBA. Chorus management will be by Ken Fisher, VP. Music and Performance.

The 2 songs will be from the new BarberPole Cat II songbook, “After You’ve Gone” and “From the First Hello to the Last Goodbye”. There’ll be 4 Sunday afternoon rehearsals in Ontario – June 26 – western area; July 24 – eastern area; August 20 Harmony Ranch; September 18 – Toronto area. Also, Sat AM October 15, in Belleville, and 1 rehearsal in San Antonio before the competition on Friday, January 20, 2017.

To participate in this new event each senior Barbershoppper agrees to:
1. learn the notes and words of the 2 competition songs and be able to perform them as an independent singer.
2. provide his own tuxedo and any other uniform parts as required by the visual team.
3. attend at least 4 of the planned rehearsals in Ontario and sing in the fall convention in Belleville. NOTE: There is a high expectation that everyone will attend all rehearsals. If missing more than one rehearsal is unavoidable, you will need to discuss your continued participation in the chorus with the Leadership Team. You may be expected to demonstrate some very positive self learning.
4. pay for all of his expenses related to this activity – travel, room and board, registration, etc.
