Ontario District Delivers in International Competition

Ontario District was well represented by four quartets and one chorus at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s 77th International Contest last week in Pittsburgh, PA.

On Tuesday, two Ontario quartets medaled in the International Collegiate Quartet Contest, held at Pittsburgh’s beautiful Heinz Hall. ‘Shoptimus Prime and Yonge Guns placed 2nd and 3rd in the contest respectively with their highest scores to date, narrowly edged out by the Swedish champions, Trocadero. This marks the first silver for Canada in the contest, and the first time in history that two Canadian quartets have placed in the medals.

On Wednesday, two Ontario quartets competed in the Open Quartet Competition, held at the CONSOL Energy Center. Test Drive and Supertonic placed 43 and 49 in the contest, respectively, in a tough competition between 53 of the best quartets in the world.

On Friday, 89 members of the Hamilton Harbourtown Sound rocked the stage at the CONSOL Energy Center and scored a personal record of 80.7%, earning them 24th place in the tight competition.
