The old district directories make fascinating reading. My oldest District Directory is dated 1962. Did you know that in 1962 we had 29 chapters which included the two newly licensed ones, divided into nine areas and four divisions? They were:
Western Division
Area #1 – Chatham, Wallaceburg.
Area #2 – London, Sarnia, Stratford (Licensed), Woodstock.
Central Division
Area #3 – Brantford, Kitchener-Waterloo, Simcoe.
Area #4 – Burlington, Oakville, St. Catharines, Welland.
Metro-Northern Division
Area #5 – Etobicoke, East York, Metro Chapter, Motor City, Oshawa, Scarborough, Toronto.
Area #6 – Barrie, Midland, Orillia, Owen Sound.
Area #7 – Sudbury.
Eastern Division
Area #8 – Belleville, Kingston.
Area #9 – Cornwall, Ottawa.
Ontario had a total of 1,085 members as of December 31, 1961. The Society had 27,776 members in 649 chapters. This was the year before Ontario hosted the International Convention in 1963. More details next month.
