The Ontario District is thrilled to announce the exceptional performances of its representatives at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention earlier this month. Participants from the district displayed incredible talent and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on the event.
In their debut International appearance, Empire captivated audiences and judges alike, achieving a remarkable 30th place. Comprising Em Travis, Hannah Barton, Sarah Patterson, and Jordan Travis, Empire’s performance was a showcase of harmonious excellence and dynamic stage presence, setting a high standard for future contests.
Detour, featuring Mike McKim, Kevin Harris, Andrew Carolan, and Steve Armstrong, delivered a stellar performance that secured them the 35th position. Their skillful harmonies and evident camaraderie were a testament to their hard work and passion for barbershop singing.
Another first-time participant, Smokeshow, made a strong impression with their 50th place finish. Michael Black, John Mallett, Greg Mallett, and Ben Wright showcased their potential, earning enthusiastic applause.
In the Chorus Contest, the Ontario District was represented by two outstanding groups. Toronto Northern Lights, under the masterful direction of Andrew Carolan, achieved a commendable 17th place with 36 members on stage. Hamilton Harbourtown Sound, directed by Jordan Travis, placed 30th in the contest with 56 members performing.
The Chorus Festival saw a significant achievement by Undercover MIX from Ontario. Although not an official member of the Ontario District, Undercover MIX, directed by Dave Campbell, placed 2nd in their first appearance and earned a Superior rating. The Ontario District’s talent was also on display in the Comedy Quartet Festival, where The Aristocrats took the stage by storm. Comprising Bobby Gibson, John Mallett, Darryl Marchant, and David Feltrin, The Aristocrats secured 2nd place with a Superior rating.
Adding to the excitement, Steve Armstrong from the Ontario District was inducted into the Barbershop Harmony Society Hall of Fame.
