We’ve heard you! Leadership Academy is returning to Geneva Park this coming January for a great overnight event filled with education in chapter leadership areas of interest, singing and performance, and musical directing. We’re recreating the event this year so that’s it’s perfectly suited for all barbershoppers, whether you’re new to a chapter role, experienced in a role, interested in taking on a role in the future, interested in improving your overall musical ability, interested in learning more about how to direct… the list goes on, and there’s something for everyone! Here’s a bit more about what we’re doing differently this year, and what you can expect.
We’ve switched from a roles-based all-day streams to an a la carte menu of great educational options spanning a huge variety of interests. While some individual classes will still be specifically targeted at a single chapter role, there are a ton of great options that are more general and could be a good fit for anyone to whom it appeals. From session to session, you’ll be able to switch from learning about how to be a better director to how to be a better singer to how to be a better leader. It’s the perfect opportunity to get outside your comfort zone and learn about an area of the barbershop experience that you may not be as familiar with.
Our keynote speaker for the weekend will be Steve Denino. Besides being an International medalist bass, Steve is also a BHS board member and founding member of the Society’s Leadership Operations Team, a group of certified facilitators trained to guide your chapter’s journey of self-discovery. Steve’s keynote address will revolve around the Society’s new strategic vision of Everyone In Harmony, and what it means for your individual barbershop experience.
After a few years away, we’re returning this year to Geneva Park in Orillia. Past attendees may remember what a great venue it is, and how well it lends itself to great singing late into the night. This year’s format is specially tailored from noon on Saturday to noon(ish) on Sunday so that the late night experience is part of everyone’s weekend. This also allows the opportunity for attendees travelling a long way to attend to be able to experience the entire event without having to pay for an extra room night on the Friday or Sunday night.
