Ontario Well Represented at International Barbershop Competition

Ontario District was well represented by four quartets and two choruses at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s 78th International Contest last week in Nashville, TN.

On Tuesday, Those Meddling Kids placed 14 in a field of 30 of the best youth (under 25) quartets from around the world. Top spot in the competition went to Pratt Street Power from Mid-Atlantic District with a score of 82.0.

On Wednesday, three Ontario quartets competed in the Open Quartet Competition, held at the Bridgestone Arena. Yonge GunsTest Drive, and Supertonic placed 32, 43, and 44 in the contest, respectively, in a tough competition among 57 of the best quartets in the world.

On Friday, 80 members of the Hamilton Harbourtown Sound rocked the stage and placed a personal best of 20th in the competition of 29 choruses. The Toronto Northern Lights had audiences rolling in the aisles with a comedy set that earned them a 4th place bronze medal in the contest. The gold medal went to the Ambassadors of Harmony chorus from St. Charles, MO, representing the Central States District.

On Saturday night, ten quartets battled it out for the title of 2016 International Quartet Champion. When the dust had settled, Forefront quartet, representing Cardinal District, walked away with the gold medal. The group includes tenor Drew Wheaton, who became the 5th Canadian ever to win the contest.
