Local barbershop quartet puts talent to work in parody

A local barbershop quartet is $300 richer after coming in second place in a tongue-in-cheek music video parody contest to promote farming.

The four won for a spoof of Wait Till the Sun Shines Nellie, called Wait Till the Sun Shines Mikey.

In this version, Brantford resident Mike Arnold is waiting for the sun to come out so he can combine his grain. He is backed up by Mike DowningBill Werner, and Ross Gowan.

The lyrics go something like this: “He looked through the window pane / He saw the rain / I can’t harvest my grain.”

The group, which is part of the Gentlemen of Harmony barbershoppers, also came in third for their parody of Ghost Riders in the Sky (nicknamed Ghost Chickens in the Sky).

In this version, a doomed chicken is caught and “they fried him extra crispy/ and they ate him with coleslaw.”

The contest was sponsored by the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.
