Looking Back – 1966 – Part III

By Waldo Redekop – Ontario District Historian

The 1966 District Directory events calendar mentioned that Chet Fox, the International Field Representative swings through Ontario District February 27-March 5, 1966. This brings an interesting view to mind. I can just see him swinging through Ontario.

There were three International Schools scheduled in 1966.

  • Chorus Directors School on Mar 11-12.
  • Arrangers School on March 25-26.
  • Quartet Coaches School on July 29-30.

The date of the Spring Convention was Apr 29-May 1 in London. The date of the Fall Convention was Oct 28-29 in Kingston. The date of the 28th International Convention was July 5-9 in Chicago.

There were 29 chapters listed in the 1966 Ontario District Directory as follows.
Brantford, Burlington,Chatham, East York, Etobicoke, Georgetown, Huronia, Kingston, Kitchener-Waterloo, Lindsay, Listowel, London, Metro Toronto, Mount Hamilton, North Bay Oshawa, Ottawa, Owen Sound, St.Catharines, Sarnia, Scarborough, Simcoe, Stratford, Sudbury, Toronto, Wallaceburg, Wingham, Woodstock, York North.

Three chapters, BellevilleOakville and Smiths Falls, were no longer listed in 1966. It is not possible to say whether we had more or less members or what the Society membership was for 1965 (the reports are always as of the end of the previous year) as they repeated the numbers from the 1964 year end in this directory.
