The 1966 District Directory events calendar mentioned that Chet Fox, the International Field Representative swings through Ontario District February 27-March 5, 1966. This brings an interesting view to mind. I can just see him swinging through Ontario.

There were three International Schools scheduled in 1966.

In the 1966 District Directory, the Quartet Promotion Committee is listed John Sutton and Jack Watson as the contacts, together with the 1965 Ontario District Quartet Champions, The Four-In-Accord. The members of the quartet were Tenor-Ken Buttery, Lead-Len Clement, Bari-Ken Brooks and Bass-Elmer Down (contact man).

I had prepared a series of articles for our editor, Michael Black, about Ontario District’s history. Numerous people asked me when I was going to continue (actually it likely was only four but my memory is not what it once was) and I told them I was looking for a 1963 directory to continue. Various people said they had one and would loan it to me but it appears they never found their copy. One fellow had a 1961 directory which I don’t have and he said he would loan that to me. He also had 1962 and 1964 but no 1963 directory. I guess I had better send him another email to remind him about the 1961 directory.

In 1963 we hosted the international convention in Toronto. I don’t have a copy of the 1963 District Directory, but by 1964 I see we have a number of new chapters.

No longer listed are:
Cornwall - Monday - 8:00. Pres-Ralph Villiers. Dir-Bill Brown.
Welland - Tuesday - 8:30. Pres-Dwight Moffatt. Dir-Norman Fisher.

I thought that I would give you a little more information about the way we were 55-years ago in 1962.

District President was Ed McKay who lived in Scarboro. His occupation is listed as Merchandise Controller-Simpson-Sears Company. He was the baritone in the quartet The Canadian Clippers.

Immediate Past President was Ross S. Schott who lived in London. He worked for the Supertest Petroleum Company.

Continuing with the 1962 District Directory I see that we had six Internationally certified judges.

George Marks, Toronto – Secretary & Timer
John Cameron, London – Stage Presence
Maynard Margison, London – Balance and Blend
Jim Turner, London – Harmony Accuracy
Hilton Howe, Toronto – Secretary & Timer.

The old district directories make fascinating reading. My oldest District Directory is dated 1962. Did you know that in 1962 we had 29 chapters which included the two newly licensed ones, divided into nine areas and four divisions? They were:

Western Division
Area #1 - Chatham, Wallaceburg.
Area #2 – London, Sarnia, Stratford (Licensed), Woodstock.
