Barbershoppers Can't Stop, Won't Stop

In an age where everything seems to cost so much, there are still a few joys that come pretty freely and singing is one of them. The Vocal Federations Barbershop Chorus is helping the community raise its voice in perfect harmony every Wednesday evening at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Albert Street at 7:30pm.

48th Annual Dawg Haus Night one week away

The Kitchener Waterloo Chapter is proud to once again host Dawg Haus at the Cambridge Knights of Columbus Hall on November 4, 2016 at 7:30pm. The annual event, now in its 48th year, helps support Harmonize 4 Speech, a charity that provides funds for numerous speech-related projects and equipment at hospitals, clinics and treatment centres throughout Ontario. Quartets and choruses from around the province perform at this stag event. Admission is $15, and food will be offered for sale by Schmuck Truck, a local food truck. This year's emcee will be P.A.G.E. 4  quartet's Andy Dennett. 

Another Great Fall Convention Comes to a Close

After a fantastic weekend of barbershop hosted by the Western Division, the Ontario District crowned a new District Quartet Champion and qualified a number of groups for 2017 International competitions.

Fleeting Sensation was named the district quartet champions with an average score of 78.3. Tall Boys qualified for the International Seniors Quartet Competition next January in San Antonio, TX. Two other quartets, ON Q! and Acapella Unplugged, put up scores this weekend that have a strong chance of earning them a wildcard spot in the contest.

Better Than Front Row

While sitting in a convention auditorium watching a contest, have you ever had these thoughts?

"My scores usually track with those of the official panel. I wonder how I'm doing today";
"I plan to apply this fall to become a judge -- it would be great if I could do a practice judging session somewhere to ensure that it's the right path for my barbershop future";
or simply, "It sure would be fun to judge an International contest!"

The Northumberland Hills Chapter (Ganaraska Chordsmen), newest Chapter in Ontario District, has developed an unique relationship with a local radio station, Northumberland 89.7 FM, in Northumberland County. The Chapter V.P. of Public Relations, Rick Faulkner, hosts a weekly radio show featuring Barbershop chorus’ and quartets. The show also showcases upcoming events and activities of the Society in general as well as the happenings of the Ganaraska Chordsmen. The show is featured between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. to catch the morning driving listeners.

Ontario Well Represented at International Barbershop Competition

Ontario District was well represented by four quartets and two choruses at the Barbershop Harmony Society's 78th International Contest last week in Nashville, TN.

On Tuesday, Those Meddling Kids placed 14 in a field of 30 of the best youth (under 25) quartets from around the world. Top spot in the competition went to Pratt Street Power from Mid-Atlantic District with a score of 82.0.

Landmark H4S Donation for East York Barbershoppers

At the conclusion of Happy Together, East York Barbershoppers' show in May this year, the chorus was thrilled to be able to present a $7500 cheque to Harmonize for Speech (H4S) through its Chairman, George Shields, and Treasurer, Bruce Dibble.  This allowed H4S to fund two initiatives that were in jeapordy.  And with that cheque the East York Chapter has now donated a total of $500,000 since the charity was founded in 1977.
